Southeast Asian horror enters an ambitious new chapter. On 30 September 2026, the official Malaysian Gala Premiere of Munafik: Melawan Iblis took over TGV Cinemas Suria KLCC with an exclusive red-carpet affair. Following a massively successful box-office rollout in Indonesia, the film opens nationwide in Malaysian cinemas on 1 October 2026. The highly exclusive event drew an elite crowd of regional filmmakers, actors, industry leaders, and media partners from both the Malaysian and Indonesian entertainment sectors.
The premiere venue was completely transformed with an unsettling, atmospheric aesthetic mirroring the film’s dark supernatural tone. Guests were immersed via custom experiential installations, thematic backdrops, and live displays of key production props and wardrobe. Walking the red carpet was Indonesian director Guntur Soeharjanto, alongside executive producers and the powerhouse main cast: Arya Saloka, Acha Septriasa, Faqih Alaydrus, and Izabel Jahja. Adding massive star power to the historic cross-border celebration was the presence of legendary film icon Datuk Yusof Haslam, director Syafiq Yusof, and original Malaysian Munafik alumni Nabila Huda, Datuk Fizz Fairuz, and Sabrina Ali.
Munafik: Melawan Iblis is the official Indonesian adaptation of Malaysia’s 2016 box-office phenomenon Munafik, originally by Syamsul Yusof. Rather than a scene-for-scene copy, the film translates the original’s core supernatural mythology and Islamic ruqyah traditions into an Indonesian framework—weaving in coastal folklore, rural mysticism, and psychological thrillers. In an ambitious cinematic universe crossover, Arya Saloka takes the mantle of the grief-stricken healer Ustaz Adam, while Acha Septriasa stars as Fitri, bridging pivotal lore from both sides. At its heart, the film fuses demonic confrontations with an exploration of faith, unresolved grief, and moral fragility.
This monumental regional release was driven by a powerful network of strategic alliances. Indonesia’s Unlimited Production teamed up with Malaysia’s legendary Skop Productions—the original IP creators—and Komet Productions to spearhead the project. Strengthening this formidable alliance was vital co-production support from Legacy Pictures and AZ Films. To maximize regional footprint, Astro Shaw stepped in as the primary marketing and distribution partner in Malaysia, anchoring a comprehensive network committed to championing high-caliber Southeast Asian cinema.
