The regional film landscape marked another defining milestone for Southeast Asian horror as the highly anticipated psychological thriller Badut Gendong celebrated its official Indonesia Gala Premiere at Epicentrum XXI in Jakarta. Held just ahead of its nationwide theatrical debut across Indonesia on May 27, 2026, the premiere brought together prominent filmmakers, industry partners, actors, and media members for an exclusive first look before the film expanded into regional markets.
The premiere night offered a uniquely terrifying experience for all attendees. Moving away from traditional red carpets, the venue was meticulously designed around a mystical, eerie circus theme, complete with a live display of the actual practical prosthetics used in the movie to bring the nightmare to life, highlighting the craft and realism poured into every scene by director Charles Gozali and lead stars Marthino Lio, Clara Bernadeth, and Derby Romero.
Serving as a major expansion of the acclaimed Qodrat Universe, the project originally took shape during the “Nusantara Wave” slate unveiled at the JAFF Market. The narrative pairs raw psychological drama with relentlessly intense supernatural sequences, introducing audiences to the tragic antihero Darso and establishing a deeper, more atmospheric branch of the franchise.
Co-produced by Magma Entertainment and Komet Production, Badut Gendong exemplifies the strength of cross-border creative partnerships. This project unites key creative and distribution forces from across the region, bringing together Legacy Pictures, Enotech, Applause, and VMS Studio from Indonesia alongside Skop Productions and Astro Shaw from Malaysia to deliver high-caliber commercial cinema to audiences across the Nusantara.
